We are all aware of China’s rapid emergence in the global economy, and the 2008 Olympics highlighted the culture and variety of China. Less known is that China is also an excellent destination for golf, and that the sport is rapidly growing among the expanding middle class. Two of our favorite areas, which offer excellent accommodations and other western amenities are Spring City in Kunming and Mission Hills in Shenzhen near Hong Kong.

For the last six years, Spring City Golf and Lake Resort has reigned as the best golf course in China and Hong Kong according to US Golf Digest. In 2004, it was named Asia’s best golf resort by Asian Golf Monthly. Located just 45 minutes north of Hong Kong is the modern resort of Mission Hills in Shenzhen. Mission Hills is an ideal option for golfers who want to combine a stay in Hong Kong.

Climate

The weather for Spring City is very temperate and ideal for golf. Kunming is known, appropriately enough, as the “City of Eternal Spring.” The city is covered with blossoms and lush vegetation all the year round.

In Mission Hills, golf can be played year round, however, the temperatures can be very hot during the summer months of July and August.
